ABOUT THE FILM

A cinematic experience adapted from Kahlil Joseph’s highly acclaimed video art installation, which was shown at the Venice Biennale in 2019, the film interweaves fictional and historical characters in an immersive story that spans 247 years across land and sea.

ABOUT THE FILMMAKER

Kahlil Joseph is an award-winning filmmaker and video artist known for his immersive and poetic works that explore Black culture, identity, and history through a unique blend of music, cinema and visual art. He is recognized for his iconic music videos for artists like Kendrick Lamar and Beyoncé, his large-scale video installations such as m.A.A.d., and the ongoing BLKNWS project, which redefines Black news and culture. Joseph has exhibited internationally at institutions including the Venice Biennale and the Tate Modern and is a co-founder of the former Underground Museum in Los Angeles.
