Fox and Lela Rochon play a singer\, a petty thief and a teacher—all of whom claim to be the rightful widow of ’50s singing sensation Frankie Lymon (Larenz Tate) and the sole benefactor of his estate. \nMPA Rating:\nRATED – R \nABOUT THE FILMMAKER\nGregory Nava is an acclaimed American filmmaker whose work has powerfully shaped Latino representation in cinema. Born in San Diego\, California\, and trained at UCLA’s film school\, Nava rose to international prominence with EL NORTE (1983)\, a landmark film on immigration that earned him an Academy Award nomination and was hailed by Roger Ebert as “the Grapes of Wrath of our time.” Nava continued to elevate Latino stories through films like MI FAMILIA (1995) and SELENA (1997)\, both later selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. He also made history in television as creator of AMERICAN FAMILY\, the first Latino dramatic series on U.S. broadcast TV. With a career spanning features like FRIDA and BORDERTOWN\, Nava has been a vital voice in bringing stories of identity\, justice and cultural heritage to the screen. \nScreenings of EL NORTE (1995) and MY FAMILY (1995) are also featured in the day’s program. Beyoncé). Following the screenings\, join producers Paul Garnes and Tammy Garnes for a discussion about how storytelling and the arts can be used as powerful tools during a time of civic urgency and cultural change. \nFALL OF FREEDOM\nA nationwide series of artistic protests organized by artists like Dread Scott and Pulitzer-Prize winning playwright Lynn Nottage\, set for November 21\, 2025\, as a collective act of resistance against what participants call authoritarian overreach by the Trump administration. The initiative invites museums\, theaters\, bookstores\, and cultural spaces to host creative events highlighting freedom of expression and resistance to censorship. \n\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\nABOUT THE FILMS\n828: A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PEOPLE (2016) \nThis short film traverses a century of Black progress\, protest\, passion and perseverance of African-American people. The project gives historical perspective within the creative framework of one date that has had a profound effect on America. Commissioned by the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture to commemorate the museum’s opening\, the film screens daily at the museum. \nFAMILY FEUD by Jay Z ft. Beyoncé (2017) \nA cinematic music video that spans over 400 years to explore themes of family legacy\, infidelity\, and national unity. The narrative weaves between a dystopian future and the present\, featuring a star-studded cast.
