SUMMARY:INJUSTICE IN FOCUS: A Photo Exhibit with Raffy Lerma
DESCRIPTION:ARRAY and The Pilipino Workers Center present a powerful photo exhibit and public dialogue featuring the acclaimed work of photojournalist Raffy Lerma\, whose haunting images document the brutal realities of the Duterte administration’s “war on drugs” in the Philippines. Through photographs that confront themes of media suppression\, human rights violations\, and authoritarian violence\, the exhibit serves as both testimony and resistance. \nThe program also includes a critical conversation on the role of journalism and art in defending truth and democracy—both in the Philippines and globally. \nIn addition\, the exhibit will feature a cultural display centered on solidarity and hope. A dedicated section will showcase photographs inspired by the Stop the Hate movement\, highlighting the impact of race-based violence against Asian American and Pacific Islander communities in the United States. This portion of the exhibit underscores the shared struggles for justice\, collective healing\, and cross-cultural solidarity. \nAdding a powerful visual element\, PWC’s iconic jeepney will also be on display—adorned with messages of resilience\, unity\, and hope from the community. Together\, these elements create a space for reflection\, remembrance\, and the possibility of healing across borders. \nEVENT SCHEDULE\nSATURDAY\, JUNE 7 \n\n1:00 PM | Doors open for check-in & Exhibit Pre-View\n2:00 PM | Program Begins: Presentation by Raffy Lerma\n3:00 PM | Panel Discussion: Defending Truth and Democracy\n3:45 PM | Closing Ceremony\n4:00 PM | Final Exhibit Viewing\n5:00 PM | Event Ends\n\nABOUT RAFFY\nRaffy Lerma is a freelance photojournalist and documentary photographer based in Manila\, Philippines. SUMMARY:THE CURSE OF QUON GWON (1916)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Week 2 of ARRAY360 at A WOMAN’S WORK a triple screening showcase of women made film gems. \nEVENT SCHEDULE\n11:30 PM | Guest Check-in Begins\n12:00 PM | Feature Film presentation: THE CURSE OF QUON GWON (1916) (Run Time: 35m) \nABOUT THE FILM\nThe members of a Chinese family living in the U.S. have a curse put upon them for becoming too “westernized.” \nTHE CURSE OF QUON GWON is preserved by and provided courtesy of the Academy Film Archive. \nMPA Rating:\nNOT-RATED \nABOUT THE FILMMAKER\nMarion Wong (1895–1970) was a visionary filmmaker who broke new ground as the first known Asian American to write\, direct\, produce and star in a motion picture. At just 21\, with only a third-grade formal education\, she founded the Mandarin Film Company in Oakland\, California in 1916 and created THE CURSE OF QUON GWON: WHEN THE FAR EAST MINGLES WITH THE WEST. This silent film explores cultural identity and the complexities of assimilation. With Hollywood’s marginalization of people of color\, Ms. Wong offered an authentic portrayal of Chinese American life\, defying racial and gender barriers. Though her film was never commercially released and nearly lost to history\, Ms. Wong’s work stands as a landmark achievement and cements her legacy as a pioneer in both Asian American and independent cinema. \nScreenings of MAURI (1988) and SAMBIZANGA (1972) are also included in the day’s program. Please note: Each film screening will have a separate ticketed entry. Guests must RSVP and possess a ticket for each film in order to attend any of the three film screenings.

Born Sarah Ducados in southwestern France\, she later adopted the name Maldoror from the surrealist text LES CHANTS DE MALDOROR as an act of artistic self-definition. She began her creative journey in Parisian theater\, co-founding Les Griots in 1956\, the first troupe of exclusively Black and Caribbean actors in France. Driven by a commitment to revolutionary storytelling\, Ms. Maldoror studied filmmaking at the Moscow Film Academy\, where she trained alongside emerging African directors including Ousmane Sembène. \nUpon returning\, she worked as assistant director on THE BATTLE OF ALGIERS (1966) before launching her own directing career in Africa. Her acclaimed films MONANGAMBÉE (1969) and SAMBIZANGA (1972) boldly portrayed liberation movements and the lived realities of colonized peoples. Working outside traditional systems\, Ms. Maldoror created a distinctly transnational body of work\, earning her the title “matriarch of African cinema.” Across more than two dozen films\, she used cinema as a tool of resistance\, love and liberation. \nScreenings of MAURI (1988) and THE CURSE OF QUON GWON (1916) are also included in the day’s program. SUMMARY:SUDAN\, REMEMBER US (2025)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for week 4 of ARRAY360 at FOR THE PEOPLE: A DAY OF DISCOURSE. This day-long showcase amplifies those who resist. \nEVENT SCHEDULE\n11:30 AM | Guest Check-in Begins\n12:00 PM | Feature Film Presentation: SUDAN\, REMEMBER US (2025) (Run Time: 1hr 26min) \nABOUT THE FILM\nSUDAN\, REMEMBER US is a powerful portrait of a generation that chose poetry over silence and imagination over fear. Shajane\, Maha\, Muzamil\, Khatab\, and the voice of poet Chaikhoon form a cinematic chorus—young\, politically defiant\, and artistically fearless. In their twenties\, they stand at the front lines of a revolution\, confronting a corrupted army and paramilitary militias responsible for brutal war crimes in Darfur\, Kordofan\, and Blue Nile. They could have lost hope before they even began. Instead\, through chants\, poems\, and dreams\, they built a movement that helped topple a regime. Blending intimate storytelling with sweeping political urgency\, SUDAN\, REMEMBER US captures the uneven struggle between the fire of militias and the unbreakable voices of the people. It’s a tribute to the power of words—and a reminder that freedom is a fight born first in the imagination. \nMPA Rating:\nNOT-RATED | Sensitive Imagery \nABOUT THE FILMMAKER\nHind Meddeb is a French-Tunisian-Moroccan journalist and documentary film director\, she was born in Châtenay-Malabry\, Paris\, France. SUMMARY:CINE CON CORAZÓN SHORTS SPOTLIGHT
DESCRIPTION:ARRAY brings Mexican Mother’s Day to our Creative Campus with a curated selection of provocative films showcased as part of “Cine Con Corazon: Cinema Celebrating Mothers.” Our 3PM showtime features: \nCHICANA (1979) shown with A CRUSHING LOVE (2009) | Directed by Sylvia Morales \nCHICANA traces the history of Chicana and Mexican women from pre-Columbian times to the present. It covers women’s role in Aztec society\, their participation in the 1810 struggle for Mexican independence\, their involvement in U.S. labor strikes in 1872\, their contributions to the 1910 Mexican revolution and their leadership in contemporary civil rights causes. Using murals\, engravings and historical footage\, CHICANA shows how women\, despite their poverty\, have become an active and vocal part of the political and work life in both Mexico and the United States. \nA CRUSHING LOVE\, Sylvia Morales’ sequel to her groundbreaking history of Chicana women\, CHICANA (1979)\, honors the achievements of five activist Latinas—labor organizer and farm worker leader Dolores Huerta\, author and educator Elizabeth “Betita” Martinez\, writer/playwright/educator Cherrie Moraga\, civil rights advocate Alicia Escalante\, and historian/writer Martha Cotera—and considers how these single mothers managed to be parents and effect broad-based social change at the same time. \nPlease note: Other showtimes in the day’s program require a separate ticketed entry. Guests must RSVP and possess a ticket for each screening time to attend each of the screenings. \nABOUT THE FILMMAKER\nSylvia Morales has directed\, written\, produced and edited award-winning and nationally recognized film and video work for over 30 years.
