SUMMARY:THE BLACK PANTHERS: VANGUARD OF THE REVOLUTION (2015)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our Week 3 of ARRAY360 at BLACK PANTHERS X3 screening series. Reflecting on revolutionary history and radical imagination through the cinematic lens.  \nEVENT SCHEDULE\n12:00 PM | Guest Check-in Begins\n1:00 PM | Feature Film presentation:THE BLACK PANTHERS: VANGUARD OF THE REVOLUTION (2015) (Run Time: 1h 55m) \nABOUT THE FILM\nTHE BLACK PANTHERS: VANGUARD OF THE REVOLUTION is the first feature-length documentary to explore the Black Panther Party\, its significance to broader American culture\, its cultural and political awakening for black people\, and the painful lessons wrought when a movement derails. Master documentarian Stanley Nelson weaves a treasure trove of rare archival footage with the diverse group of voices of the people who were there: police\, FBI informants\, journalists\, white supporters and detractors\, and Black Panthers who remained loyal to the party and those who left it. \nMPA Rating:\nNOT-RATED \nABOUT THE FILMMAKER\nStanley Nelson is the foremost chronicler of the African American experience working in nonfiction film today. His documentary films\, many of which have aired on PBS\, combine compelling narratives with rich and deeply researched historical detail\, shining new light on both familiar and under-explored aspects of the American past. A MacArthur “Genius” Fellow\, Nelson was awarded a Peabody for his body of work in 2016. He has received numerous honors over the course of his career\, including the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts Sciences. In 2013\, President Barack Obama presented Nelson with the National Medal in the Humanities. Mr. Nelson has directed and produced numerous acclaimed films\, including FREEDOM SUMMER\, FREEDOM RIDERS\, JONESTOWN: THE LIFE AND DEATH OF PEOPLES TEMPLES and THE MURDER OF EMMETT TILL. He is also co-founder and executive director of Firelight Media\, which provides support to emerging documentarians. \nScreenings of BLACK PANTHER (2015) and BLACK PANTHERS (1968) are also included in the day’s program. Please note: Each film screening will have a separate ticketed entry. Guests must RSVP and possess a ticket for each film in order to attend any of the three film screenings.
